Prime Minister Boris Johnson, recently introduced the new Government slogan in light of the increasing spread of the Corona virus across the UK.

“HANDS” was about encouraging people to continue with regular hand-washing.
“FACE” meant masks were an integral part of the response to the pandemic.
“SPACE” meant maintaining social distancing,

As soon as the announcement was made, a group of Ekta Unity service users, volunteers, session workers and members decided to get together and make over 400 washable & reusable face masks which will be given to every one of our service users. The group began with obtaining various materials from Tahim Drapers in Foleshill Road. Thank you to Sarla Tahim and her family for the generous support with this and to our Trustee-Parmjit Bains for her donation for the face masks.

The group began with cutting the materials into appropriate pieces and worked tirelessly for 2 weeks to make the face masks in their own homes.

Suman Ghaiwal-Chair of Trustees at Ekta Unity said: Thank you to the group who volunteered to make the face masks: Swarn Lota, Sital Rai, Gurjeet Grewal, Tarseim Kanwal, Joginder Jagdev, Satwant Kaur, Daljit Kaur, Kuldeep Rehal, Mohinder Mudhar, Surjit Athwal, Gurdev Kang, Surjit Kaur, Kiran Brar. Thank you for all you do for Ekta Unity. Our organisation simply could not exist without your hard work, your dedication, your commitment and your loyalty for our cause. Your help is so important to our project and the face masks could help save so many lives and make our service users feel safe. The entire Board of Trustees at Ekta Unity are so grateful to you. We’ll never forget your hard work. Thank you”

Sanjay Jagatia-CEO of Ekta Unity said: “Government restrictions are changing all the time, but face masks are now a way of life in the UK. We need to be more responsible now than ever before and that involves wearing a face covering at all times. Corona virus is threatening the entire world and it’s our responsibility to stop the aggressive spread of this virus. Social responsibility right now during this extraordinary unprecedented time is critical. We may need to alter our life in some way, and it’s really just so we can do all we can to mitigate what’s happening. If we all listen to the recommendations by the medical experts, we’ll be able to eradicate this virus or at least slow it down, so we can get ahead of it”

There are some very simple ways we can all protect ourselves and others from the spread of coronavirus – “wash your hands, cover your face & make space” #HandsFaceSpace
