Our Sessions

We promote community cohesion

We hold weekly sessions with a new session everyday. Take a look and if you wish to come along then feel free to use the contact form and contact us.

Yoga Sessions

The yoga & meditation sessions take place every Monday 11am – 12.30pm at our base, St Paul’s Church. They are taught by an experienced, qualified & dedicated yoga tutor. The sessions include teaching techniques of controlling mind and body, combination of breathing exercises, postures, meditation and relaxation.

We ensure that the sessions take place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and everyone is supported to do exercises according their physical ability, which also include chair-based exercises. It is very pleasing to see that people with disabilities and wheelchair users join in to do exercises as much as they can.

  • All in a friendly and fun atmosphere, to do as much or little exercise as anyone is able to do.
  • Using chairs or yoga mats ( provided ) whatever is comfortable.

One of our more recent successful projects that we have delivered has been on ‘Dementia ’. We the committee at Ekta Unity identified that there was a lack of knowledge and awareness about dementia and the signs and symptons and the role of carers. Because of this we applied and were successful in securing funding to help raise awareness to our members and the wider community.
Our theme project “Great Minds”  focused on raising awareness of dementia and the support services. We achieved this through holding 3 hour weekly sessions over 40 weeks, delivered by specialist dementia professionals raising awareness of dementia, early symptoms, importance of early detection and methods of prevention or delay the disease by providing patients, carers and families with skills, knowledge and understanding reflective of their cultural and language needs.  We used evidence based approach by including puzzles and memory quizzes, music  and singing sessions to engage with members with a variety of levels and needs making it informative and fun.
We also celebrate major annual festivals such as Diwali, Eid and Christmas and celebrate International Women’s Day and take part in Positive Images festival and Black History month.
